Cultural Expedition Program
Jr. Watson Program
School Bus-ins
The Cultural Expedition Program is a collaborative program between Caltech and the Pasadena Unified School District. Initiated in 1998, the program included over 600 participants last year. This season a total of 640 high school students and 50 Caltech students will participate in curriculum activities on their respective campuses and in residency activities with artists. The curriculum focuses on four performing arts engagements at Caltech during the 08/09 season:
Scrap Arts Music Friday, October 3, 2008
Joshua Kane in Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Terror Friday, October 10, 2008
Carolina Chocolate Drops Friday, February 20, 2009
Aquila Theatre Company: The Iliad
Friday, March 13, 2009
The goals of the program are to:
- increase audience participation among underrepresented groups who reside within the greater Pasadena area, developing future audiences at Caltech;
- explore different cultural traditions, discovering similarities and differences among each, creating cultural bridges of appreciation;
- promote literacy through literary-based innovative learning opportunities;
- acquaint local high-school students with Caltech through on-campus activities and demystify what occurs on a college campus, specifically Caltech.
